Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ for professional K9 work
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ is a professional, lightweight and fully adjustable working dog harness designed for demanding K9 applications. As the foundation of Ray Allen Manufacturing’s Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™ (I.H.S.™), it gives handlers the freedom to configure their dog’s equipment according to the task, environment and operational requirements.
Rather than using a completely different harness for every application, compatible Nomad components can be attached to the same frame. This makes the system particularly useful for police K9 teams, search and rescue dogs, detection dogs and other professional working dogs.
At Dogpride NL, this modular platform is an excellent choice for handlers who demand versatility, professional-grade construction and freedom of movement for their K9.
Why choose the Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™?
A professional K9 harness should provide control without unnecessarily restricting the dog’s natural movement. It also needs to be adaptable enough to meet different requirements in the field.
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ combines these qualities in a carefully designed open-frame construction.
Key features include:
- Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™
- 4 polymer AustriAlpin GT Cobra buckles
- 500 lb load test per buckle
- 3 strategically positioned handles
- 2 top-mounted V-rings
- 6 G-hook attachment loops
- Mil-Spec webbing
- Padded Y-shaped chest frame
- Fully adjustable construction
- VELCRO® panel for patches
Four 500 lb GT Cobra buckles
This version of the Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ features four polymer AustriAlpin GT Cobra buckles.
Each buckle is load tested to 500 lb, approximately 227 kg. The polymer construction offers an excellent combination of strength and reduced weight, making it particularly suitable when keeping the overall K9 equipment package lightweight is important.
Ray Allen also manufactures a separate Nomad Harness Frame with metal Cobra buckles. This model specifically uses the lighter polymer GT Cobra configuration.
Three handles for increased handler control
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ incorporates three handles into its construction.
Two handles are positioned horizontally, while the third is a vertically positioned suitcase-style handle. This gives the handler several options for maintaining close control of the dog depending on the situation.
The handles can assist trained handlers when guiding, loading, lifting or lowering a working dog. The webbing, handles and V-rings are sewn directly into the harness structure to provide additional stability.
Specialist lifting or deployment requires appropriate professional training and compatible equipment. Always use techniques suitable for the individual dog and application.
Padded Y-frame for freedom of movement
The padded Y-shaped chest frame is an important feature of the Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™.
Its shape is designed to provide the dog with a full range of movement while helping prevent the harness from digging into the armpit area. This is particularly important for active working dogs that need to run, climb, search and manoeuvre efficiently.
The open-frame construction also reduces the amount of material covering the dog’s body. This helps keep the harness lightweight and can improve comfort during active field use.
Fully adjustable for a secure fit
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ is fully adjustable and designed to accommodate different working dog builds.
VELCRO® adjustment straps make it possible to fine-tune the fit in the field. The adjustable frame can also accommodate some changes in body shape as a young working dog develops.
A correct fit is essential. The harness should sit securely against the body without unnecessarily restricting breathing, shoulder movement or the natural gait of the dog.
Always measure the individual dog rather than selecting a size based purely on breed or body weight.
Part of the Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™
The major advantage of the Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ is its modular construction.
The frame serves as the foundation of the Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™, allowing compatible components to be added according to the intended use.
The Nomad system includes components such as the Patrol Body™, Woobie Jacket™, Swiss Seat™, Skid Plate Body™ and Bottom Bucket™. Compatible G-hook backpacks, pouches and other accessories can also be attached.
This modular approach means the handler can start with the basic frame and configure the harness according to specific professional requirements.
Always check the compatibility and intended use of specialist Nomad components before combining them with the frame.
Six G-hook attachment points
Each side of the Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ features three G-hook tab loops, providing six attachment positions in total.
These attachment points can accommodate compatible G-hook pouches, bags and accessories. This makes it possible to expand the harness without permanently loading it with equipment that is not required for every task.
The handler can therefore keep the basic configuration lightweight and add equipment when the assignment demands it.
Two top-mounted V-rings
The harness also features two V-rings on top, with one positioned towards each end of the frame.
Combined with the three handles and six G-hook loops, these attachment points contribute to the versatility of the Nomad platform.
The strapping, handles and V-rings are integrated into the harness construction for stability during professional use.
A VELCRO® panel positioned along the top also provides space for compatible identification, unit or other hook-and-loop patches.
Mil-Spec construction for professional use
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ is constructed using Mil-Spec webbing and professional-grade hardware.
Ray Allen Manufacturing has designed the Nomad platform specifically around the requirements of professional K9 handlers. The combination of strong webbing, integrated attachment points and lightweight polymer hardware provides a solid foundation for different working configurations.
The harness can be particularly useful for patrol, detection, search and rescue, training and other professional K9 applications where both mobility and equipment flexibility are important.
