The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ w/ Metal Cobra Buckles is a professional tactical dog harness designed for strength, control and operational versatility.
Developed for police K9 units, military working dogs and specialist handlers, this harness forms the foundation of Ray Allen’s Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™ (I.H.S.™).
Featuring four AustriAlpin Metal Cobra buckles, each individually rated to 2,500 lb (approximately 1,134 kg), the frame combines heavy-duty fastening hardware with durable Mil-Spec nylon webbing.
Three integrated handles, two top-mounted V-rings and a padded Y-shaped chest design provide practical handling options while maintaining comfort and freedom of movement.
The harness can be used independently or customized with compatible Nomad accessories for different operational requirements.

Heavy-Duty AustriAlpin Metal Cobra Buckles
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ features four AustriAlpin Metal Cobra buckles designed for demanding professional applications.
Each buckle has an individual manufacturer-stated load-test rating of 2,500 lb (approximately 1,134 kg).
The four-buckle configuration helps distribute fastening points across the harness and allows handlers to open the frame for easier fitting and removal.
Compared with the polymer GT Cobra version, which features buckles individually rated to 500 lb, the Metal Cobra configuration provides higher-rated fastening hardware.
Important: Individual buckle ratings do not represent the certified working load limit of the complete harness assembly.
Any lifting, lowering or rappelling operation requires an appropriate complete system, correct fitting and qualified personnel.
Three Integrated Handles for Enhanced K9 Control
The Nomad Harness Frame™ incorporates three strategically positioned handles that provide multiple handling options.
Two horizontal handles allow handlers to assist with controlled movement, positioning and loading, while the central vertical suitcase-style handle provides an additional grip point for close control.
These handles can be particularly useful during:
- Police and military K9 deployments
- Assisted movement over obstacles
- Vehicle loading and unloading
- Tactical positioning and close handling
- Specialist training exercises
The handles, straps and V-rings are integrated into the harness frame to provide a stable construction.
Handlers should always evaluate the suitability of the complete harness and handling technique before lifting or supporting a dog.
Padded Y-Chest Design for Comfort and Mobility
A correctly fitted harness should provide secure control without unnecessarily restricting the dog’s movement.
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ features a padded Y-shaped chest configuration designed to distribute contact across the front of the dog’s body.
This construction helps reduce unwanted pressure around the armpits while allowing natural shoulder movement during running, tracking and other activities.
The lightweight webbing frame also helps limit unnecessary material coverage, supporting comfort during extended working periods.
Adjustable straps allow handlers to adapt the fit to the individual dog’s proportions.
Proper adjustment is essential for maintaining stability and preventing excessive movement of the harness during demanding assignments.
Part of the Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ is the central component of the Nomad Interchangeable Harness System™.
This modular platform allows handlers to configure their equipment according to different operational requirements without replacing the underlying harness frame.
Compatible accessories include:
- Nomad Patrol Body™ – identification panels and modular accessory attachment
- Nomad Woobie Jacket™ – additional cold-weather protection
- Nomad Skid Plate Body™ – additional coverage for challenging terrain
- Nomad Swiss Seat™ – specialized rear-leg support for K9 rope operations
- Nomad Ballistic Body™ – protective configurations for specialist assignments
- Nomad Bottom Bucket™ – additional underside comfort
The frame also features three G-hook attachment loops on each side for compatible bags and equipment pouches.
Each accessory has its own compatibility and operational requirements.

Important Safety Information
The Ray Allen Nomad Harness Frame™ must be correctly fitted and inspected before use.
Although the Metal Cobra buckles have high individual load ratings, these ratings do not establish the lifting capacity of the complete harness.
Specialized activities such as rappelling or suspended transportation require suitable additional equipment, approved configurations and professional training.
Always inspect the buckles, handles, stitching, webbing and V-ring attachment points before deployment.
Care and Maintenance
Inspect the harness regularly for worn webbing, damaged stitching and compromised hardware.
Remove dirt and debris from the buckles and attachment points after demanding operations.
Clean according to the manufacturer’s instructions and allow the harness to dry completely before storage.
Replace or professionally assess any component showing structural damage.
